In short

The 2027 season runs from October to April. November and the second half of March are the best balance of weather and crowds, with Ramadan expected from about 8 February to 9 March. Book Christmas and New Year nine to twelve months ahead, and the rest of the season six to nine months ahead.

The best months for 2027

November 2027 is arguably the best month of the year: warm days, comfortable nights and pre-Christmas prices. The second half of March is the other sweet spot, after Eid al-Fitr and before the southern heat builds, and Western Easter on 28 March lines up neatly with the Australian long weekend.

December to February has ideal touring weather but is the busiest and most expensive stretch, especially from about 20 December to early January. If you’re travelling in Australia’s winter, plan for heat in Luxor and Aswan, with early starts and more time on the Red Sea; see Egypt in the school holidays.

Travelling during Ramadan 2027

Ramadan is expected from about 8 February to 9 March 2027, and it rarely spoils a trip. Temples, museums and hotels stay open, some with shorter hours; the cities come alive after sunset, and many travellers love the atmosphere. Expect quieter afternoons and plan lunches at your hotel or cruise ship. Our Ramadan guide explains what changes.

When to book

  • Christmas and New Year 2027: nine to twelve months ahead; gala dinners and the best cruise cabins sell out first.
  • October to April: six to nine months ahead for the widest choice of ships, dahabiyas and pyramid-view rooms.
  • Abu Simbel Sun Festival (22 February, 22 October): as early as you can; Aswan and Abu Simbel fill up.
  • May to September: a few months ahead is usually enough, apart from Australian school holiday flights.
