Quick answer
There are no flights from the Gold Coast to the Middle East, so Gold Coast travellers reach Egypt by connecting through Brisbane or Sydney to a Gulf carrier, about 23–28 hours in total. Noble Travel plans private Egypt tours from the Gold Coast with flights, Egyptologist guides, a Nile cruise and 24/7 support, quoted in Australian dollars.
How do you get from the Gold Coast to Egypt?
Most Gold Coast travellers drive or take the train to Brisbane Airport (roughly 1–1.5 hours) and fly one-stop via a Gulf hub to Cairo; the alternative is a domestic flight from Gold Coast Airport (OOL) to Sydney or Melbourne to connect there. Including the transfer, allow about 23–28 hours door to door.
At the time of writing, Emirates (via Dubai) and Qatar Airways (via Doha) fly from Brisbane with onward connections to Cairo. If you connect through Sydney or Melbourne, book everything on one ticket so your bags are checked through and a missed connection is the airline's problem, not yours. Read more in our flights guide and on our Egypt tours from Brisbane page.
Egypt for beach lovers: the Red Sea
If you live on the Gold Coast you'll appreciate that Egypt has superb beaches too: the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada, El Gouna and Sharm el-Sheikh have warm, clear water and some of the world's best reefs for snorkelling and diving. A few days on the coast after the temples is a relaxing way to finish before the long flight home.
Our Egypt & Red Sea journey combines Cairo, a Nile cruise and El Gouna. See our Red Sea guide for what to expect.
When should Gold Coast travellers go to Egypt?
October to April is the best time to visit Egypt, with warm, dry days of roughly 20–30°C in Luxor and Aswan. Queensland has no daylight saving, so Egypt is 8 hours behind in Egypt's winter and 7 hours behind in its summer. December and January are the busiest and most expensive months; late October, November, February and March are the sweet spots. Read the month-by-month guide.
