Frequently asked questions about Egypt travel

What is the best way to book a trip to Egypt from Australia?

The easiest and safest way is through an Egypt specialist who can bundle your international flights, private guides, internal flights, Nile cruise and hotels into one itinerary with one point of contact. Noble Travel designs every trip privately around your dates and interests, quotes in Australian dollars and provides 24/7 support while you are in Egypt.

How many days do you need in Egypt?

Ten to twelve days is the sweet spot for a first visit: three nights in Cairo for the Pyramids, Saqqara and the Grand Egyptian Museum, a three- or four-night Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, and a day trip to Abu Simbel. With 14 days or more you can add the Red Sea, Alexandria or the Western Desert. See our sample Egypt itineraries.

When is the best time to visit Egypt?

October to April is the best time to visit Egypt, with warm, dry days of roughly 20–30°C in Luxor and Aswan. December and January are the busiest months. Spring (March–April) and autumn (October–November) offer the best balance of weather and crowds. Read the month-by-month guide.

Do Australians need a visa for Egypt?

Yes. Australian passport holders need a visa, which can be obtained online as an e-Visa before travel or as a visa on arrival at major Egyptian airports. Your passport should be valid for at least six months. Full details are in our Egypt visa guide for Australians.

Is Egypt safe for Australian travellers?

The main tourist areas – Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and the Red Sea resorts – welcome millions of visitors each year and are well policed. Some border regions carry stronger warnings, so always check the current advice on Smartraveller. Travelling with a private guide and driver removes most of the hassle and risk. Read is Egypt safe?

Are your Egypt tours private or group tours?

All Noble Travel journeys are private. You travel with your own Egyptologist guide and driver, on your own dates, at your own pace. Our published itineraries are starting points – we adjust every one to suit you.

Can you book flights from Australia to Egypt?

Yes. We can arrange return flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and other Australian and New Zealand cities, typically via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Singapore, along with stopovers and internal Egyptian flights. See flights from Australia to Egypt.

How far in advance should I book an Egypt trip?

For travel between October and April, book 6–12 months ahead to secure the best Nile cruise cabins, hotels and flights from Australia – especially for Christmas, New Year and Easter. Shoulder and summer dates can often be arranged with 2–3 months’ notice.

What is included in your Egypt tour prices?

Our quotes typically include accommodation, Nile cruise or dahabiya with meals on board, private Egyptologist guides, entry tickets to the sites in your itinerary, internal flights, private transfers and airport meet-and-assist. International flights, visas, travel insurance and tips are quoted separately or on request.

Can you tailor a tour for limited mobility?

Yes. Private travel makes this much easier: we choose hotels and ships with lifts and accessible cabins, plan shorter walking days, use buggies where available and tell you honestly which sites involve steep steps or uneven ground.

Do I need travel insurance for Egypt?

Yes – comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical treatment and evacuation is essential for Egypt, and we strongly recommend buying it as soon as you book. Smartraveller advises that if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.

What currency should I take to Egypt?

The local currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP). Cards are widely accepted at hotels and larger restaurants, and ATMs are common in cities. Carry small EGP notes for tips and small purchases. See our Egypt travel tips and tipping guide.

Can I combine Egypt with Jordan or another country?

Yes. Egypt combines well with Petra and Wadi Rum in Jordan, or with a stopover in Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul on the way home. Tell us what you have in mind when you enquire.
