An Egypt honeymoon mixes things few destinations can: a hot-air balloon drifting over Luxor’s West Bank at sunrise, a private felucca at sunset in Aswan, dinner on the terrace of a hotel where Agatha Christie stayed, and then a few lazy days on the Red Sea.
We plan honeymoons as private journeys at a relaxed pace, in romantic hotels and on boats with only a few cabins. Celebrating an anniversary or a milestone birthday instead? The same itineraries work beautifully. Tell us it’s a special occasion and we’ll ask the hotels and ships for whatever they offer for couples.
A typical honeymoon starts with three or four nights in Giza for the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then flies south to Aswan for the Old Cataract, Philae and Abu Simbel. From there a ship or dahabiya carries you down the Nile past Kom Ombo and Edfu to Luxor, where the balloon flight and the Valley of the Kings wait, before a short flight to the Red Sea to finish.
What to expect
- A sunrise hot-air balloon flight over Luxor’s West Bank
- Historic hotels such as the Old Cataract in Aswan and the Winter Palace in Luxor, or similar
- A private felucca at sunset, and the option of a small dahabiya instead of a big ship
- A relaxed pace with free afternoons, and a Red Sea beach finish
- Honeymoon touches requested from hotels and ships when you tell us it’s a special occasion

Egypt honeymoon packages: FAQs
Is Egypt good for a honeymoon?
Very. It combines once-in-a-lifetime sights with romantic experiences: ballooning over Luxor, sailing the Nile, historic hotels and Red Sea beaches. A private, unhurried itinerary makes all the difference.
How long should an Egypt honeymoon be?
Twelve to fourteen days on the ground is ideal: four or so in Cairo and Giza, four on the Nile between Luxor and Aswan, and three or four on the Red Sea to relax.
Dahabiya or cruise ship for a honeymoon?
Many couples choose a dahabiya: a small sailing boat with a handful of cabins that moors at quiet islands. A five-star cruise ship has more facilities. See cruise ship or dahabiya.
When is the best time for an Egypt honeymoon?
October to April for touring the Nile, with November and March the sweet spots. If you’re marrying in Australia’s summer, December to February is cool and sunny in Egypt; book well ahead for Christmas and New Year.
